Johnson Creek House

A custom designed home by Portland architects in Milwaukie, Oregon. Natural stone floors and a reclaimed wood wall connects outside with indoors.

Located on a busy thoroughfare in Portland, our clients’ recently purchased lot (with an existing abandoned home to be demolished) abuts the properties of three friends. We were tasked with designing a new home, professional quilting workshop, and ADU that open up to the neighboring lots, allowing our clients to share resources while keeping visual and acoustical privacy from the street.

  • Location: Portland, OR

The home was built with an emphasis on being cozy, modern, and energy efficient, and is full of natural materials such as reclaimed hemlock, cedar, white oak, and stucco.

As the clients are frequent entertainers, the home is also designed to be as comfortable with just two people as with 40.

A tight building envelope sealed with Aerobarrier and liquid applied WRB, blown-in insulation, heat recovery ventilation paired with an air filtration system, and high efficiency HVAC and water heating systems make the buildings efficient, cozy, and quiet.

  • DESIGN TEAM: Hope Telford AIA, Richard Brown AIA, Jason Didion, Rebecca Morello

    CONTRACTOR: R.S. Wallace Construction Company

    LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT: Karen Ford
